A look back at the Docteur Honoris Causa ceremony by Thomas Peternell, professor of complex geometry at the University of Bayreuth

On october 12, Thomas Peternell, professor of complex geometry at the University of Bayreuth in Germany, received the insignia and title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Lorraine. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Mrs. Fabienne Blaise, Rector Delegate for Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
Nearly 80 people were present in amphitheatre 5 of the Faculty of Science and Technology for this occasion: students and staff of the Institut Élie Cartan de Lorraine (IECL), LORIA, INRIA, CNRS, Laboratoire Jean Alexandre Dieudonné (LJAD), DRARI Grand Est, but also a few distinguished guests who came especially from the University of Bayreuth. Many Internet users were also able to follow the event remotely thanks to the live stream offered by the University of Lorraine.

The ceremony was marked by the beginning of a “return to normal”: even if masks and health passes were required on Tuesday, students and staff of the university were able to return to this institutional event of our institution, which could not take place last year because of the health crisis. The ceremony ended with a lecture in English by Dr. Peternell entitled “The mystery of the six dimensional sphere”, followed by a discussion with the audience.
